One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star. -Nietzsche |

Pop Music is Parody Every pop band is an example of comedy by virtue of adapting a popular style through an emulation of expectations that announces itself as an exaggerated parody. There are north-eastern rock bands singing non-ironically about the cowboy lifestyle and every other appealing cliche. This fits perfectly with popular tastes -- entire stadiums will sing along like churchgoers belting out hymns, a united mass completing standards without considering their content. If you were to make a movie spoof of bands or rappers, none would be more ridiculous than the leaders of the genre. They have perfected their stereotype, sealing their position while giving bored spectators more of what they've seen before, offering a soothing numbness of repetition. How to write a popular song? Make it just like all the rest, using two or three notes and emphasize a single lyrical aspect of the audience's desired prejudice. Crowds stand for more of the same, and their combined spare income is a dependable way to earn money by providing an entertaining status quo.
