Pay to Play

I enjoy watching a good scam develop, and will hang in for as long as possible before having to cut bait.

Recently, a young woman approached me at a gas station and asked for money. She had a nice German sportscar with tint and aftermarket rims, and explained the house she and her husband had was foreclosed upon and they now lived in the car with their young child. This was either a story of reckless budgeting or a curious new scam that seemed to have no great payoff.

After inquisitive questioning to elicit the storyline, I gave her some money to push the swindle sequence along, but nothing more came. She went inside the convenience store and purchased a soda with her newly won gas money.

Perhaps people who overextend themselves on cars and houses and then buy soda are penalized for disorganization and unrealistic expectations.
