You Would Do Anything

Lament can be so empty when it misses the point.

"I would have done anything for you" is an empty ex post facto promise of dubious value, too late, and now irrelevant.

  • Your anything might not add up to very much. It was probably already measured, and fared poorly, counting against you.
  • If you had some amount of anything forthcoming, you either didn't show much of it or that you would one day offer something substantial.
  • We can see from the split that what you think the other person wanted was probably wrong, and not what you wanted. As you directed the relationship toward your desires, the difference grew to make the split inevitable.
  • Kindness is good, but not sufficient. Other qualities matter, and despite how kind you are, neglecting other aspects or showing that you lack them makes you appear an undesirable long-term partner.
  • Being eager to accompany is good, but it's better if you're already heading there. Those with will, spirit, and goals are already active and are not looking for bored dabblers wishing to come along. Dead weight is worse for travel than going alone.

You will need a better excuse than someone irrationally rejecting your infinite world of kindness.
