Bad expectations -- you will never meet anyone with an interesting job, but a few with great responsibilities that consume their time, energy, and consciousness so they are perpetually reacting to imposed burdens.

An occupation occupies, and now you serve a useless product or crazy ideology.

"What do you do?" more correctly means "What occupation keeps you from doing interesting things?"
